render times - Scene Renders

How fast does Realsoft 3D render ?

You have come to the right place - if you have always wondered how Linux vs NT vs SGI vs Intel compare - we hope to compile a comprehensive list of rendering times to answer just those questions !

Following is a compilation of times that we have made with several incarnations of Realsoft 3D - from Beta versions to the latest. The times are based on a standard scene (refer to Scene stats below) The lower the times - the faster the machines - hence, the lower the time the better.

Newer versions of Real (ie Service Pack 2, 4.5 or greater (SP2=4.2, SP1=4.1) have made significant improvements in speed. For this reason, many of these times are out of date or not strictly comparable.

Scene Statistics

For the sake of uniformity - we have prepared a scene that you should use if you attempt to test your machine/network. This scene utilises Heavy floating point calculations and has no image maps - hence render times across networks should be very fast as no images are being transferred.

Click HERE to download the test scene zip file. (43k - SP1 2 proc. version)
Click HERE to download 4.2 dual processor version. (37k - SP2 2 proc. version)
Click HERE to download 4.2 single processor version. (37k - SP2 1 proc. version)
Click HERE to download 4.5 single processor version. (54k - v4.5 1 proc. version)

Note: when rendering on single processor machines - turn off Open GL and set Box rendering OFF. With Dual processor machines set boxes to 4x4. The actual view SIZE is set by the envionment used PLEASE NOTE: Many people are being confused by strange render results - you MUST set the viewport size to 615x484pixels. This is done by goingRight click / View Properties / Fixed View Size (turn on) and set to 615 x 484. Many installs of RS 4.5 have -noGUI switch on by default so the files windows and environment are NOT loaded by default. Drag the camera to the view, NO OPGL, and drag Quality Rendering to the viewport under Render Settings. Then click the render button and see how your machine performs !

Special Note:

These render tests have been compiled over several years - during which time Realsoft 3D has been constantly updated and optimized - the latest 4.5 versions have made a dramatic speed increase in rendering times - hence some of the times posted look a bit strange.. (PIII700 faster than Athlon 750)

I'll endevour to update these statistics as time goes on - but I'll leave the old ones on for comparison purposes. PLEASE feel free to send me times of your machine to add here.

email us if you have any render times for us to add - we are always eager to have more statistics !

Open GL Test Scene also available - Click HERE for more info
